The successful candidate will be an experienced nurse preferably with oncology experience with the vision and passion to help optimize high quality patient care.

As a Band 6 Ward Sister/Charge Nurse it is expected that you will play an active role in the development of the team, and be willing to take on managerial duties, whilst supporting the ward manager. The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you will be expected to work as part of a team as well as using your own initiative and will be positively encouraged to recognise and develop service improvement.
Ward 4 and The BMRU (Brachytherapy and Molecular Radiotherapy Unit) is a combined unit over 2 floors and staff can rotate between both areas. Full training for this unit will be provided.
Main duties of the job
- To coordinate and supervise a shift, communicating effectively with members of the multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality evidence-based care to patients.
- To advocate for patients and exercise clinical judgement about patients’ needs in terms of plans and long-term goals.
- To communicate openly with the team at safety huddles, cascading important information that impacts the team/patient care.
- To participate fully in the day to day running of the ward.
- You would be responsible for supporting the senior sister in the management of the clinical area and supporting junior staff.
- Ensuring the ward is safely staffed, complete return to work interviews, supporting junior staff to develop their skills and confidence in caring for patients.
- You will be responsible for a small group of staff of your own which you will take charge of and ensure their annual professional development review is completed and their essential training is up to date.
Qualifications
Essential:
- RGN Level 1
- Degree or Diploma in Nursing Studies
- Post Registration Certificate in Cancer or equivalent
- Teaching & assessing certificate or equivalent
